Javier Vera, Ph.D.

Natural Language Processing Researcher

Javier holds a PhD in Complex Systems Engineering (Universidad Adolfo Ibañez, Chile). As part of his doctoral work, Javier researched human language development using various complex computational models, under the supervision of Professor Eric Goles, mathematician and recipient of the Chilean National Award in Exact Sciences. Javier has also collaborated with Professor Nicolas Ollinger (Department of Computer Sciences, Université d'Orléans, France). Prior to his doctoral work, Javier earned a Bachelor in Writing with Minors in Linguistics and Hispanic Literature (Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile, Chile).

Dr. Vera has demonstrated experience in computational linguistics, machine learning, and automatic networks. This experience is reflected in nine peer-reviewed journal publications, eight conference presentations, and participation in four research projects. Dr. Vera is currently a NLP Researcher at WriteWise. His research involves global linguistic patterns descriptions in scientific articles (i.e. coherence and cohesion automatic assessment and measurement). This is achieved by mixing NLP, Machine Learning, and Graphs Theory techniques.
